Constructive Details Limited

Constructive Details Limited (CDL) is a joint venture by the BBA and Robust Details Ltd. It has produced three handbooks of masonry details for various junctions developed by the Aircrete Products Association (APA), of which Forterra UK is a member with its Thermalite blocks range.

Partial Fill (Book 1)
There are a total of 21 details, labelled CD0001 to CD0021. To provide guidance for designers and specifiers the corresponding E and P numbers given in the SAP conventions document are also included.

Full Fill (Book 2)
There are a total of 16 details, labelled CD0022 to CD0037 with their corresponding E number as per the latest version of the SAP conventions document, to assist Energy Assessors in identifying the relevant junctions.

Solid Walls (Book 3)
There are a total of 15 details, labelled CD0038 to CD0052 with their corresponding E number as per the latest version of the SAP conventions document, to assist Energy Assessors in identifying the relevant junctions.

There are two ways the details can be viewed, via an e-book, or by using individual PDF files. The e-book gives the option to print directly, a search facility, allocate bookmarks and create your own PDF file.

The benefits of using them are that:
They contain a comprehensive set of junctions needed to construct a dwelling allowing optimum thermal bridging performance to be achieved. Based on common building methods they closely follow the ones currently featured in Appendix K of SAP 2012, with clear and simple drawings, easy to follow examples for achieving the desired psi-values and checklists for use on site highlighting the key areas to ensure correct performance;

  • They are future proofed – providing a range of U-values for the fabric elements to meet current and future performance for low energy/zero carbon buildings;
  • The E and P numbers commonly used in SAP software are provided;
  • They use generic products allowing supply chain flexibility and consequent best costs.
