Bison Precast provided flooring for high-specification apartment buildings on an award-winning, luxury development in Cambridge by developers Hill Group.

Situated on the outskirts of Cambridge, Ninewells is a stunning collection of 162 contemporary homes set in a beautiful natural environment. The development includes one, two and three-bedroom apartments for which Bison Precast’s hollowcore and beam and block were integral components.

3,000m² of beam and block was provided for the ground floors of the first phase of development, with a further 7,000m² for the upper floors, which included balconies also supplied by Bison Precast.

Nigel Whebby, Project Manager at Ninewells, said, “Hill Group has done business with Bison Precast for more than a decade, and we continue to come back to them when creating quality new developments because of their expertise and efficiency in designing, manufacturing and delivering precast concrete units.

“Bison’s hollowcore and beam and block are standard flooring solutions for all our apartments, which are then overlaid with timber flooring, plus underfloor heating systems. Precast concrete units offer superior sound and heat insulation, making our completed apartments more comfortable places in which to live, and more energy efficient to heat.”

The in-house team at Bison Precast’s Hoveringham facility in Nottinghamshire designed the apartment flooring system from scratch, and the units were created and delivered within four to six weeks on a rolling schedule, with more intricate precast units taking up to eight weeks.

Nigel concluded, “As well as the dependably quick turnaround on their manufacture of these units, Bison Precast ensured their deliveries to site always adhered to our strict program, helping us to costs and timings on schedule.”
