Case study Southampton Docks
Client: Associated British Ports
Sectors: Car Parks
Products: Hollowcore Range
Project: Southampton Docks
As part of a £24 million project at the Port of Southampton, Bison Precast supplied 84,000m² of its hollowcore flooring to car storage facility number 7.
The port owners, Associated British Ports (ABP) commissioned the construction of the additional car storage facility to enable the port to handle greater numbers of import and export cars. The project is a key element in ABP’s £50 million investment programme to transform and expand vehicle handling facilities at Southampton.
The scheme within the Western Docks led by Morgan Sindall involves the construction of the largest car deck at the port, providing spaces for 5,418 vehicles over five levels amounting to 3.98-acres.
Bison Precast’s Mike Nelson Commercial Director commented: “Having worked closely with ABP and Morgan Sindall on a number of car storage facilities at Southampton Docks in recent years, we were delighted to have been appointed to be part of this significant scheme creating the largest car deck within the port. Our experience and knowledge of offsite manufacturing and delivering high-quality precast hollowcore flooring highlights our expertise within this industry sector. We look forward to delivering more projects like this in the future.”
