Forterra donation helps family focused Northampton charity
Spring Charity works to provide vulnerable families with children under five in the Castle Ward of Northampton town area and the wider community with opportunities to improve their well-being and outcomes in life.
The Seed to Soup project encompasses several strands of support. Part of the project is a ‘greening’ element which focuses on encouraging local residents and families to get involved with growing fruit and vegetables from seed. As many of the families they support live in flats without outdoor space, the charity has installed raised beds and planters to encourage community gardening and community cohesion.
Another strand of the project includes offering online cookery courses for local residents and families with preschool or school-aged children. Forterra’s donation will help to facilitate face-to-face courses with the development of a new community teaching kitchen.
Tracey Hamilton, Charity Manager of Spring Charity said, “The generosity of the Forterra Community Fund is greatly appreciated by both me and the charity trustees. It will enable us to continue to work with our local families and the wider community to provide practical support and advice on healthy eating and well-being.
“Our charity is an area in the top 5% on the national deprivation scale so we serve a community experiencing a wide range of social, health and emotional issues. Without funding from generous sponsors, such as Forterra, we would not be able to provide the targeted support needed.”
Caroline Wildman, Marketing Director at Forterra said, “It’s fantastic to see our donation help the Spring Charity develop its community projects that help local families. It will be wonderful to see the finished kitchen and we hope it gets plenty of use bringing the community together as well as providing a safe place to learn valuable life skills.”
The Forterra Community Fund gives charities, clubs, groups and societies the opportunity to apply for funding or building products to be used in projects that make a positive contribution to their local community.
