ALDER HEY CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Bison Precast supplied thousands of components for the swift construction of one of the largest children’s hospitals in the UK, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.
Precast concrete units were specified by the designer to reduce onsite labour, improve health and safety and reduce the build time of the £250m project, contributing to what became the client’s fastest hospital build, completed 20% faster than any previous healthcare project they had undertaken.
The huge building’s bespoke design, which includes multiple architectural interfaces, meant additional pressure on the process to maintain the strict deadlines vital to this project.
More than 12,000 separate precast units, including load-bearing sandwich panels, principal columns and façade panels, which helped give the finished building its distinctive character, were delivered on time and to specification, including floor-to-ceiling components which were some the largest ever sandwich panels created for the client.
Now complete, the hospital treats more than 250,000 children and young people every year.
