Forterra Pledge Awarded With Bronze Membership To 5% Club
The award comes as part of Forterra’s pledge to invest in the development of its workforce through a broad range of ‘earn and learn’ programmes. From an impressive list of 129 members, Forterra was one of the eight Employers who met the bronze standard.
The 5% Club is a dynamic movement of employers that exists to help its members and all employers increase further the number, quality and range of earn and learn opportunities across the UK. The Employer Audit is a unique scheme which validates the employers’ activities, explores their future plans and commitments, as well as examining their approaches to quality, social mobility, diversity and inclusion. Members aspire to achieve 5% of their workforce in earn and learn positions within five years of joining.
There are three levels of membership bronze, silver and gold which represent the different percentages of a work force on the earn and learn programmes. With 51 employees already in the programmes across 15 of the sites and others who work from home, Forterra is taking steps to increase this number and achieve its silver membership next year.
Forterra joins more than 750 organisations all committed to providing the ‘earn and learn’ opportunities for their workforce. ‘Earn and Learn’ describes a group of routes into and within employment which combine study with practical experience, enabling individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required to pursue their chosen occupation such as apprenticeships, graduate schemes and sponsored students course placements.
Shahbaz Idriss, HR Director at Forterra, said: “Forterra is committed to providing the best training for our employees. It’s a great honour to receive this award. We are excited to see the continued development of our employees and watch them flourish in their careers.”
Mark Cameron OBE, Chief Executive at the 5% Club said, “Our Employer Audit scheme recognises the efforts of all those Employers who invest in their workforce through a broad range of workplace learning schemes. It is fantastic that in these challenging times so many are able to commit to the Employer Audit and to gain the credit for their efforts, and that the majority are striving to expand their schemes over the coming years. Their efforts and achievements are to be applauded.”
Forterra will be presented with the award at a special House of Lords Celebratory event as part of the 2022 UK National Employer ‘Earn and Learn’ Awards.
